Raising Connected Kids
Karen Parrott, Managing Director of Connected Education, has seen many children in her Raising Connected Kids programs learn to understand and manage their emotions, to feel calmer and happier, and communicate better with family, friends, and teachers.
Karen is a qualified teacher and has taught in primary schools in both Western Australia and Canada. While connecting with those quieter less confident children, Karen found her passion working alongside school psychologists, delivering wellbeing programs to support children with social emotional learning (SEL) challenges. Motivated by the challenges faced by her own children, Karen knew she wanted to do more to support families. Raising Connected Kids programs empowers children to gain true self confidence and emotional resilience so they can navigate it all – school, home, and life!
Raising Connected Kids offers weekly live and interactive emotional skills programs that support boys and girls in small online groups. Karen limits class sizes at 6, and truly understands the different stages of child development - meaning groups are commonly 5-8 years, 8-10 years, 9-12 years, and 12+ years. Individual personalised 1 on 1 programs are also offered.
According to Karen, one of the most common challenges children experience is lack of self-belief. This can present as perfectionism, blame and shame after making mistakes, not taking accountability, and difficulty setting boundaries around friendships or close relationships.
“Emotions do not have to be big and scary. We teach simple yet powerful techniques that build and refine social emotional skills and strategies in a safe environment. One that provides friendship and peer support from other likeminded children,” adds Karen.
Your child can participate in the program from the comfort of their own home. For children who feel shy or anxious in the unfamiliar, an online environment can allow the child to learn the principles being taught without worrying about their external environment. Karen uses interactive strategies in a fun and entertaining way, always ensuring that everyone is respectful towards each other by giving every child a voice.
Our children are embracing online learning, and it is proving to be a huge bonus for busy families. Without adding extra stress to your afternoon schedule, some parents may even use the hour to refill their own cup!
Connected Education is proud to join the Higher Swing community and be part of the ‘village’ that is supporting Australian family’s mental health and wellbeing.
