We are excited to offer a comprehensive and engaging workshop framework designed to help young people aged 13-18 years old improve their communication skills and boost their confidence.
Led by communication professional, Jenae Tien, this program runs for a school term (10 weeks), running after school one day per week. These one hour sessions can be taken in the comfort of your own home, via Zoom or any other location that suits you.
Jenae Tien is the founder of Expand Your Library and the author of Deck of Diversity. She is also an ABC multimedia producer and journalist with extensive experience in communication and media.
Throughout the program, students will learn a variety of skills and techniques to help them communicate more effectively. Topics covered will include public speaking, active listening, body language, and overcoming communication barriers. Students will also have the opportunity to practice their skills in a safe and supportive environment, receiving feedback and guidance from Jenae Tien along with a comprehensive workbook.
By the end of the program, students will have gained a deeper understanding of effective communication and developed the confidence to express themselves more clearly and confidently. They will have learned how to adapt their communication style to different situations and audiences, and how to overcome common communication challenges.

All sessions are immersive with manageable workloads to ensure these sessions are engaging, fun and relevant to their lives and goals. Weekly sessions may be adjusted in the beginning based off intake form completed prior to sessions. It may also be customised based on circumstance, abilities, goals and or specific project or personal needs.
|Week 1: Introduction to Communication Confidence
|In this first session, students will learn about the program structure and expectations. They will also be introduced to the
concept of communication confidence, its importance and how it can benefit them in their personal and future professional lives. We take this time to get to know the student and find out their personal goals.
|Week 2: Active Listening Skills
|In this session, students will learn the importance of active listening and how to develop this skill. They will learn how to listen effectively, ask questions, and respond appropriately.
|Week 3: Body Language and Nonverbal Communication
|In this session, students will learn how to interpret and use body language to communicate effectively. They will learn how to use gestures, facial expressions, and posture to convey their message.
|Week 4: Overcoming Communication Barriers
|In this session, students will learn how to identify and overcome communication barriers. They will learn how to manage misunderstandings, language barriers, and cultural differences.
|Week 5: Public Speaking
|In this session, students will learn the basics of public speaking. They will learn how to prepare and deliver a speech, how to engage an audience, and how to use visual aids to enhance their message.
|Week 6: Confidence Building
|In this session, students will learn how to build their confidence in communication. They will learn techniques to manage anxiety and fear, and how to project confidence in their communication.
|Week 7: Effective Writing Skills
|In this session, students will learn how to write effectively. They will learn how to structure a message, use appropriate language, and how to write for different audiences.
|Week 8: Conflict Resolution
|In this session, students will learn how to manage conflict effectively. They will learn how to identify and address conflicts, how to negotiate, and how to resolve conflicts peacefully.
|Week 9: Leadership and Teamwork
|In this session, students will learn about leadership and teamwork. They will learn how to lead a team, how to delegate tasks, and how to work effectively with others using effective communication skills.
|Week 10: Final Presentation and Celebration
|In this final session, students will have the opportunity to showcase their communication skills in a final presentation. They will receive feedback and guidance from Jenae. The session will conclude with a celebration of their achievements.
